Festival Day 2
Today I got off the train at Cannes and tried to catch the 8:30 showing of Wildlife. Sadly it was already full when we got there, so we went to the American Pavilion to figure out a different film to see.
The first screening we saw was for a German film called Donbass. We waited in line for an hour, but thankfully we got in! The film was about a war in Ukraine involving an intense struggle between soldiers and civilians. It was extremely powerful and heavy, but overall it was a beautiful film.
We then ate paninis for lunch and headed back to the American Pavilion to pick which film we wanted to see next. We decided on Rafiki, a Kenyan film about two girls who fall in love and must overcome different trials to save their relationship. It was probably my favorite film of the day!
After that I immediately went to see a Spanish film, and it was nothing like I’ve ever seen before. It was probably one of the worst films I’ve ever seen in my life. It was a “horror/thriller” but it was much more disturbing and gross than expected. We made it through the whole thing though, and we’re excited to hopefully see Wildlife and Ryan Coogler tomorrow!
